TSA - The TSA, or Transportation Security Administration, is a system developed in response to September 11, 2001 to enhance the security of the United States transportation systems. Because of the concern for safety and security when traveling by air, security officers check every piece of luggage that goes on board. This typically involves sending the suitcase through a scanning machine that allows TSA agents to see the contents without having to open the suitcase. Occasionally, however, an agent must physically recheck the contents of the luggage. If you're using a traditional lock, it will be forced open, most often by pinching. TSA-approved locks are designed to allow TSA agents to open them with a master key. Only screeners have this key and it is not part of the suitcase, so you don't have to worry about an unauthorized person looking in your suitcase. You will only ever open the lock with a 3-digit code.
TSA is a trademark of Travel Sentry, which must approve all lock designs and affix a red diamond identification mark.
